Late teens and twentysomethings in Montenegro

Less than an hour’s drive from Dubrovnik in Croatia, Montenegro has a feast of activities, events, beaches, music festivals and nightlife for young people to make the most of.

For music lovers, the Southern Soul Festival 2013 takes place from June 28th – June 30th on the beautiful Velika Plaza Beach and features international acts and DJs playing soul, funk, house, jazz and reggae as well as showcasing local musical talent. The acts will include UK singer Alice Russell (who will be performing at this year’s Glastonbury Festival) and will perform in Montenegro with her full live band.

Refresh Festival is a music festival featuring big name DJs and this year it will be held in Kotor Maximus discothèque from 8-10th August and attracts more than 10,000 visitors each year from all over Europe and in the past has included performances from Sebastien Leger, Steve Angello, Nick Warren, Bob Sinclair and Kevin Saunderson.

For those heading to Kotor in July, an International Fashion Show is a chance to dip one’s toe into the world of fashion and in the past has featured prominent fashion houses such as  Dolce & Gabanna, Prada, Versace and Armani.

Montenegro’s mountainous landscape coupled with the Adriatic Sea offers visitors both skiing in the winter and water sports in the summer. Ulcinj is a hot spot for kite surfing as well as wake boarding and water rafting on Long Beach. Paragliding can be organised in Sveti Stefan on Budva Riviera and is perfect for those who want to combine beautiful views with an adrenalin rush.

A potential and affordable place to stay is Jaz Beach, one of the largest sandy beaches on the coast, 2.5 km north from Budva and is ideal for campers and there sites and facilities on offer such as Camp Jaz Hostel.

Montenegro is fast becoming a European party destination and the best nightlife can be found in Budva which has an abundance of bars, outdoor cafés and nightclubs such as Trocadero or Hacienda just outside the walls of the old town. A particular renowned venue is Top Hill, a huge open-air club with a capacity for 5,000 located on top of Toplis Hill and overlooking Budva and the Adriatic Sea and has hosted major performers such as Ministry of Sound and Hed Kandi.
